In 1938, construction began on an east-west highway in the Welver area as well. The work was halted due to the war. What remained were several piers for bridges that were to span the highway route. The solid concrete, partially clad in green sandstone, has stood the test of time to this day. Since 2013, parts of the planned route and the bridge piers have been designated as historic landmarks. Of particular note is a nearly completed bridge between Beckumer Straße in Kirchwelver and Kettlerholz in Dorfwelver.
Additional bridge piers are located on the left side of Buchenstraße as you leave town. With a little effort, further remnants can also be found in thickets right next to the road at Hauskamp.
