Old Town Hall
The Old Town Hall of Obermarsberg was first mentioned in a document in 1377 at its current location. It is likely much older. During the Thirty Years’ War, it was largely destroyed—the town council archives were lost. The part of the Old Town Hall that has survived to this day was rebuilt in 1650 and used as a courthouse until 1827. After that, it served as a residential building. The building has been privately owned since 1922.
Pillory
The pillory is located at the site of the city’s former town hall. It symbolizes the jurisdiction the city exercised for centuries. During the last punishment carried out between 1806 and 1808, a man caught stealing a side of bacon was subjected to two hours of ridicule and abuse from the public while tied to the pillory.
