Obermarsberg Water Tower
Historic Site
Even today, remnants of the old city wall can be seen in Obermarsberg, including the water tower and the Buttenturm. There were a total of seven fortified towers along the city wall. Other watchtowers outside the city, from which the surrounding area could be easily surveyed, were the Donnersberger Warte (also known as the Mäuseturm) and the Priesterberger Warte on the hill of the same name.

The water tower got its name from its secondary function as a well, through which the Oberstadt was supplied with water from the valley. In all, there were eleven important wells and springs on Eresburg that ensured the supply of drinking water.
An information panel provides details about the tower’s history and past uses.
Unfortunately, for insurance reasons, visitors are not permitted to climb it. From there, one has a beautiful view of the surrounding countryside.
