Obermarsberg Buttenturm
Lookout Point/Observation Tower
The Buttenturm in Obermarsberg impresses with its history and location. Although only half of it remains, it offers a breathtaking view of the Diemeltal. It was once used to keep watch for horsemen and features a mysterious former prison cellar. It’s the perfect destination for history buffs and those seeking scenic views alike.

The Buttenturm (outer tower) on the north side of the hill is now preserved only halfway up. It has a square floor plan measuring 6.2 meters on each side, with 1.5-meter-thick rubble stone walls and two vaulted stories above a 5-meter-deep cellar that was formerly used as a prison. From the Buttenturm, there is an ideal view of the Diemeltal. In the past, this allowed watchers to observe passing horsemen and fire upon them in the event of an attack.
