Museum at the Monastery in Frankenberg (Eder)

Following a comprehensive redesign, you’ll find an exhibition on the town and district of Frankenberg in the former cloister, refectory, and dormitory. It traces the history from the great heyday of Humanism through to the town’s era as a district seat in the 19th and 20th centuries. Get to know the people and their times!

Philipp Soldan, born around 1500, worked in Frankenberg and the surrounding region as a stone sculptor, woodcarver, mold maker, painter, and master builder. He left behind numerous works that continue to fascinate visitors today with their artistic charm. As was the case for Tyle von Frankenberg, who was active in the city several generations before him, the Liebfrauenkirche served as the temporary center of Soldan’s creative work during the era of Humanism and the Reformation. The museum houses numerous works by both artists, which serve as a reminder of the city’s early golden age.

The “City Insights and Regional Perspectives” section showcases interesting, unusual, and even rare exhibits from the museum’s diverse collection on various themes from the 19th and 20th centuries.
