The chapel is located on the Freienohl hiking trail F1.

The small chapel at the foot of the Küppel - Freienohl's landmark - has stood in its current form for over a hundred years. A half-timbered chapel with a canopy supported by pillars already stood on this site before.

Construction of the Küppelkapelle began in the spring of 1902. It was dedicated to St. Joseph. It was completely renovated in 1982 for its 80th anniversary and the forecourt was renovated in 1985.
