Several legends surround the “Knight’s Leap” in Obermarsberg. One of the best-known tells of a noble knight who was traveling through the area when he suddenly found himself face to face with the notorious robber knights of Padberg. He fled to the Eresberg (today’s Obermarsberg) to seek refuge in the monastery there. In the dense forest, he was surrounded by the robber knights. Rather than fall into the hands of those scoundrels, he chose to die a death of honor. He turned his horse around and leaped over a rocky ledge into the depths of the Diemeltal. As if guided by a supernatural hand, the knight and his horse landed safely in the valley, allowing him to escape his pursuers.
