Karl vom Ebbe is a deliberately idealized character portrayal. He traveled through the countryside with his Kiepe - similar to the well-known Kiepenlisettken in the Oben an der Volme area - to offer goods and spread news. The pannier is symbolic of the region's trades, from blacksmiths to farmers, but also of the role of storyteller and bearer of tales.
