Karl from Ebbe
Hauptstraße
58540 Meinerzhagen
Karl vom Ebbe is a deliberately idealized character portrayal. He traveled through the countryside with his Kiepe - similar to the well-known Kiepenlisettken in the Oben an der Volme area - to offer goods and spread news. The pannier is symbolic of the region's trades, from blacksmiths to farmers, but also of the role of storyteller and bearer of tales.
The walking stick refers to the wooded surroundings of the Sauerland and to being on the move as an integral part of everyday life at the time. As an overall figure, Karl vom Ebbe does not embody a single historical person, but the community of Sauerlanders, which was traditionally characterized by cohesion, neighbourliness and mutual support.
The monument is freely accessible and easy to reach. There are parking facilities and a bus stop in the immediate vicinity, making it easy to integrate a visit into a stroll through the town.
