The large-format painting measures an impressive 18 × 6 meters and was executed in oil. Antonio Maro created the work with the help of his son. In terms of content, the painting deals with the sun - a motif that represents an existential, sometimes destructive force in Maro's native Peru, while in Central Europe it is primarily perceived as a warming and life-giving element.
The artist deliberately picks up on these contrasts. In the shielded depiction, the sunlight still shines through the picture surface, while a fine haze drifts upwards. This creates the impression of warmth, energy and calm at the same time. Maro himself described his work as a place to pause - a symbolic "resting place for the sun", where its intensity appears both focused and tamed.
The artwork shapes the space of the Stadthalle through its size and its strong color and light effect and combines South American symbolism with a universal visual language.
Note:
Due to the renovation of the Stadthalle, the artwork will not be open to the public from 2026 for the time being.
