Former Brüser & Co. Knitwear Factory

The four-story, white-stuccoed building at Honseler Straße 2 reflects a chapter in Lüdenscheid’s economic history and the evolution of Westphalian industrial architecture. Founded around 1900, the company “Brüser & Co.” manufactured women’s, men’s, and children’s clothing made of wool in this building. Operations ceased in the late 1960s.

The factory was built in 1914–15. The gable end, with its large window facade, remains particularly impressive to this day. The building’s basic structure is modern and designed with a focus on practicality and functionality. At the same time, the construction did not entirely dispense with historical elements, as evidenced by the arched windows, projecting sections of the building, and gable triangles.
Little is known so far about the history of the knitwear company. As part of the textile industry in the Märkisches Sauerland region, however, it serves as evidence that, in addition to the strong wire goods and small-scale manufacturing sectors, other branches of production also shaped the town’s economic life.
The building was designated a historic landmark in 1995 and can only be viewed from the outside.
