The building was constructed in 1897 for the Loers & Hueck button factory. After Wilhelm Berg took over the business in 1905–06, an aluminum-processing plant was established that manufactured household and kitchen appliances as well as equipment for the military.

Today, the building houses part of the Lüdenscheid Development and Startup Center.

It was added to the City of Lüdenscheid’s list of historic monuments in 1992 and can only be viewed from the outside.
