Fish belly bridge Meinerzhagen-Scherl
Am Stadion
58540 Meinerzhagen
The railroad bridge was built between 1912 and 1914 and is characterized by its striking supporting structure. It is characterized by the steel truss, which consists of two straight superstructures connected by a fish-bellied girder pointing downwards. This construction not only gives the bridge its characteristic silhouette, but also testifies to the engineering solutions of the time.
The steel structure is complemented by a solid arch bridge to the west. It consists of two arches with a concrete core and quarry stone cladding. The combination of steel framework and solid arch is rarely found in this form anywhere else in Germany, which underlines the special monumental value of the bridge.
A walk to the nearby Volmequelle spring offers impressive views of the structure. Especially from the surroundings of the valley, the construction can be easily grasped and experienced in its technical and scenic effect.
