The cellar was built in 1853 to chill beer brewed in Reiste. However, by 1875—22 years later—it was no longer used for that purpose and stood empty. During World War II, however, it served as an air-raid shelter. Eventually, the historic vaulted cellar came into the hands of the Reiste Tourism Association, which is responsible for its maintenance. It is possible to tour the historic cellar, and we highly recommend it. It offers a chance to cool off a bit, and not just on hot summer days. Tours are available upon request through the SGV, Reiste branch.
