Drolshagen Heimathaus

On the ground floor, the former restaurant from the 1950s has been renovated. In addition, a cozy room with an old stove, a coffered ceiling, and wood paneling was created adjacent to it. On the same level is the “Buchstube Heinrich Bone,” a Catholic public library. The upper floor houses the caretaker’s apartment, the library, and the photo archive, as well as books, documents, and images relating to regional history. The attic was converted into a modern lecture hall in 2001–2002. The Heimathaus is located in the heart of Drolshagen.

When a total fire in May 1838 destroyed everything within the former city walls, the subsequent reconstruction no longer followed the previous medieval street grid but instead adopted a rectangular grid pattern for the new streets. Matthäus and Elisabeth Bone built their new home on Annostraße. It served as the “Gasthof Bone” from 1839 to 1993. The farm was in operation until 1968.

It is the childhood home of the educator Heinrich Bone (d. 1893), who became known as a reformer of Catholic church hymns in the 19th century, as a textbook author (“Deutsches Lesebuch”), and as a cultural politician. The “Buchstube Heinrich Bone” preserves his memory through its name.

Today, the Heimathaus serves as a cultural and event center with a wide range of functions. It enables the local heritage association to host exhibitions and offer a rich educational program. The town of Drolshagen, factions of the town council, associations, and committees use it for conferences and meetings. Family celebrations take place throughout the year, and the flexible layout of the space provides a cherished setting for private gatherings.
