The "Steinkuhle" climbing area in Neuastenberg near Winterberg, with shale clay rock, has been open for climbing since summer 2011. The wall has sixteen routes from 3rd to 6th degree of difficulty with a wall height of between 12 and 15 meters and a south-easterly orientation. The most difficult route is the "Asten-Blitz" - a 6+. Most of the climbs are in the easy 3rd and 4th level of difficulty.
Parking is available directly above the crag at the junction of the B 480 to the biathlon stadium (from here a path leads downhill to the crag) or in the village of Neuastenberg at the West German Winter Sports Museum.
Access: From the museum parking lot, walk up Neuastenberg Straße for a short distance and turn left into the street "Am Hügel", then immediately left again into the dirt road towards the forest and after around 500 meters you will reach the crag. The walk to the Steinkuhle climbing area is only a few minutes from both parking lots.
