As a repository of “urban memory,” the City Archives—one of the oldest municipal institutions—documents the history of the city of Iserlohn and its neighborhoods.
It continuously acquires documents of lasting value from the city administration. The City Archives’ holdings, which date back to the 14th century, collectively reflect the development of the city of Iserlohn and its neighborhoods.

In addition to official records, the library also collects, organizes, archives, and analyzes estates, corporate and association documents, newspapers, photographs, and other historical artifacts.
Of particular note are the records of the noble House of Letmathe (documents dating back to the 14th century) as well as those of companies and families known beyond the region. Examples include the Kissing & Möllmann company, which maintained global trade relations—including with South America and Eastern Europe—as well as the family estates of the Löbbecke, Möllmann, and Nohl families.
The City Archives also maintains a reference library containing literature on local, regional, and state history.
A series of lectures provides insights into topics related to the city’s history, and the results of archival work are also presented in publications, exhibitions, and guided tours.
Interested citizens can view the largely unique archival and collection materials in the reading room of the City Archives at the “Alte Post.”
A microfilm reader is also available.
Provided the condition of the documents permits, photocopies or personal digital photographs may be taken. To expand the archive’s holdings,we gladly accept documents, photographs, and postcards related to Iserlohn.
