"Kyrill" destroyed over 1,000 hectares of the Brilon City Forest. On 1% of this area, the Brilon Bürgerwald is being created from 30 different tree species—a recreational, climate-regulating, and fragrant forest, an experiential area for all the senses. Help with the reforestation! Help shape the landscape with us! Plant a tree or purchase a “Waldtaler,” which will then be used by foresters to plant a tree. ‘Be a ray of hope!’ You can play an active role in replanting the forest after Storm Kyrill.
The Kyrill-Tor—a memorial that commemorates Kyrill, its unimaginable destructive power, but also reconstruction, restoration, and a fresh start.
The gate consists of 14 massive Douglas fir trunks. Each is 20 meters long, weighs 1.5 metric tons, and comes from the Brilon Stadtwald. Galvanized steel bases are embedded in a concrete foundation. From each metal base, a debarked, otherwise untreated wooden colossus rises diagonally upward, marking the entrance to Brilon’s Bürgerwald.
