In the entrance area, many display boards show the "Old Church" from 1496, which was restored at great expense and is by far the oldest building in Allendorf. Other focal points are the "Gold Rush" and the story of how the people of Allendorf got their nickname "Hunnebürn". Basket weaving was an important factor for survival back then, as the poor soil could not feed its owners. The finished baskets were then transported by dog teams to the sales markets - mainly in the hinterland. The development of Allendorf, a poor farming village at the time, into an industrial center of global importance takes up a great deal of space.
