Anröchte

Anröchte is located on the northern edge of the Haarstrang, between the Sauerland and the Soest Börde. With its ten villages, the municipality of 11,000 inhabitants is one of the most attractive destinations for a weekend getaway or a relaxing short vacation in the home of the legendary green sandstone.

Admittedly, Anröchte is probably not the right tourist destination for a three-week family vacation. However, you should not give the friendly community the cold shoulder when planning a trip to the Sauerland. Anröchte is definitely worth experiencing and always worth a visit. In insider circles, the community has long been known as "filthy rich. However, this does not refer to the treasurer's budget, but to the special occurrence of a very specific type of stone, green sandstone. It enjoys an excellent reputation, especially among sculptors. But it is not only visual artists who rely on the green stone.

This natural building material has been quarried in the Anröchte quarries since the 12th century and used, among other things, for building houses. An architectural proof is the St. Pankratius church in the center of the village, which was built around 1180 with the green sandstone. If you want to learn more about the exciting history of the "Stone Age" in Anröchte, you should plan some time for the stone museum on the main street. It is worth it! Just a stone's throw away is the Kurkölnischer Amtshof, another architectural highlight.

With its well-developed biking and hiking trails, Anröchte is perfectly connected to its villages Altengeseke, Altenmellrich, Berge, Effeln, Klieve, Mellrich, Robringhausen, Uelde and Waltringhausen. Here, too, hikers and cyclists can walk in the footsteps of Anröchte's living history. There is much to discover here.
