Almost untouched forests and mysterious caves, valuable church treasures and historical industrial monuments, international music festivals and sports events - the Hönnetal as a sub-region of the Sauerland, bordering the Ruhrgebiet metropolitan region, offers plenty of nature, culture and sports opportunities. There is a lot to discover and experience: The legendary Felsenmeer in Hemer with the Sauerlandpark in the direct neighborhood, the Luisenhütte in Balve - Wocklum, Germany's oldest preserved blast furnace plant, the Chainsmith Museum in Fröndenberg, the international horse show Balve Optimum, the Recken and Heinrichshöhle as well as the Balver Höhle as the largest cultural cave in Europe with its important cultural events. Sauerland-Höhenflug, Sauerland-Waldroute and many wonderful circular hiking trails inspire hikers.
