Schloss Haus Sassendorf, as castles in northern Germany are often called, is located right at the beginning of the spa gardens, somewhat hidden behind large trees. It is privately owned and therefore not accessible to the public.
However, Haus Sassendorf is also well worth seeing from the outside. It was built in 1785 by Franz Gottfried von Bockum, called Dolffs zu Sassendorf and his wife Sophie Dorothea Maria von Menge.
Von Bockum was a Prussian chamberlain and hereditary maltster, i.e. he owned rights to salt production in Bad Sassendorf. The gable of the house is decorated with the coat of arms of the von Bockum-Dolffs.
The house is a classic building of the late baroque period. It is axially symmetrical, i.e. mirror right and left. The half-timbered buildings of the castle complex were originally farm buildings.
