In a quiet corner of Werl's Altstadt, near the Provost Church of St. Walburga and the pedestrian zone Steinerstraße, lies the Städt. Museum Am Rykenberg - Wendelin-Leidinger-Haus -.

The Burgmannshaus is a stately medieval stone building with half-timbering. The oldest parts probably date back to the 14th century and probably represent the original residence of the Burgmannenfamilie v. d. Rykenberge.

With its rich holdings in the historical accommodation, the Städt. Museum Haus Rykenberg is one of the most appealing of its kind.

The building of the museum was erected in the 14th century by the "Burgmann von dem Rykenberge", who was one of the officers of the archiepiscopal Werl town guard.

The historical building creates a memorable ambience for the presentation of important periods of Werl's town history.

The Biedermeier ambience of the upper middle-class furnished fireplace room, the main room on the first floor of the building, creates an impressive and beautiful setting for visitors and events. There are various offers for kindergartens and school classes.

For children's birthday parties, it is possible to choose from various themes depending on the age group.

There are special customs offers before Easter and Christmas. During a museum week there is an extensive program accompanied by museum educators.

For adults there are readings, concerts, lectures and special tours.

The main room is ideal for civil weddings, which are organized in consultation with the registry office. When the weather is nice, the romantic museum garden can also be used. Early registration is recommended.

Since 01.01.2014, the new Heimat- und Geschichtsverein has taken over the management of the Städt. Museum.
