The fountain at the POW memorial also has historical significance. Here was one of the five city fountains fed by wooden water pipes, the municipal brewing and baking house and on the site of the War Victims Memorial the municipal fire station.

The sculpture of the memorial was created by the sculptor Hans Sommer from Winterberg/Warstein after the Second World War.
