Meerhof is first mentioned in a document in 1170 as "Mere, mare, mari and Ostmare", in 1416 the name "Merhoff" appears for the first time. As a sign of the fertile Sintfeld, the ear of corn is depicted on the village's coat of arms, while the antlers are a reminder of the large forest stand bordering the village.
On the themed hiking trail "Nature Experience Forest", the forest can be explored at more than 20 stations by doing, seeing, hearing and touching.
Other local hiking trails, such as the "Sieben Buchen" area, invite visitors to explore the district. The natural monuments "Stelter Linde" and "Anneken Linde" in the village and the "Hückelbaum" a little outside are beautiful photo points.
The oldest building in the village is the former tithe barn.
