Our cinema, unlike the multiplexes, has a long history, which is now briefly described below.
In 1916, the cinema was founded by the Dettenberg family.
During the war, the front part of the building was used in the meantime as a bank, the rear as a grain warehouse, so that it came to the reopening of the Lichtspielhaus Altenhundem, under the now new owner Mr. Thurian, in 1928.
In 1938, a new façade, today's columned porch, was built with a new foyer, as well as a new projection room, which was moved to the back a little later due to higher visitor capacity. The available seats expanded from 224 to 400.
At the same time, Mr. Thurian was operating another cinema in a town three kilometers away. However, since he only had one copy of each film available for both theaters, it was common practice at the time to drive the film act wise from one theater to the other. As a result, there were often screenings that did not end until after midnight.
In 1955, Mr. Schoen took over the Altenhundem cinema. At the same time as the new owner, newer technology also finds its way into the cinema, in order to be able to stand up to the television.
Since 1985, Jutta and Meinolf Hanses have been running the cinema.
After long, intensive planning, they began a massive reconstruction of the cinema in the winter of 1986, in order to increase the comfort for the guests of the Lichtspielhaus Altenhundem. The old ticket booth for the sale of tickets, drinks and sweets was exchanged for a bar inviting to socializing.
CAMERA and CLASSIC were the names of the two halls equipped with the latest technology (changeover
from the old coal light projectors to new machines) and new seating
, which were created from one large hall.
After these serious reconstruction measures, the cinema reopened its doors on March 6, 1987.
In the fall of 1988, an annex building was converted into the third cinema CONTRAST, in order to correspond to the typical multi-cinema house in the 80s and to offer a larger selection of films. Our visitors were the first in the whole Sauer- and Siegerland to enjoy fresh popcorn with the movie.
In 1994 the next step into the future followed by fundamental changes at all three cinemas. Firstly, the auditoriums were expanded and modern attributes such as amphitheater-like ramping and greater row spacing were added. In addition, the old screens were replaced by larger ones and the latest sound technology was installed, as well as an elaborate air-conditioning system.
In 1995, a computerized box office system further improved the service for our visitors.
In 1998, the complete sanitary facilities were expanded and brought up to the latest standards.
In 2003, all auditoriums were renovated and equipped with new carpets and seating. Additionally, cup holders were installed to increase comfort during movie viewing.
In 2004, the Hanses family realized another modernization of the building: the cinema was given a new face, while at the same time maintaining the classic profile of the facade. In the now expanded foyer, many comfortable seating options invite guests to linger in a pleasant atmosphere before and after their visit to the cinema. Our expanded food assortment thus offers you a completely rounded cinema experience at reasonable prices.
Our young, dynamic team is looking forward to your next visit to the Lichtspielhaus Lennestadt, in order to make the movie experience a special kind of event for you.

We always open half an hour before the first film.
