Until the 19th century, it was a large rock formation made of hard Enkeberg limestone. Due to road construction, they were then partially demolished, so that today only a small part of the stones can be explored. Next to the Külbensteine is the so-called Külben Chapel, which was built in 1866 by Provost Carl Böckler. Next to the monument and the chapel, the annual Easter fire takes place.
