Clouds hang over the valley - on the Kahlen Asten the sun is shining. This is not a rare phenomenon on the 842-meter-high mountain. After Kyrill, clear days offer views almost like in the Alps. On the summit is the Berggashof with its observation tower. All around is real Hochheide as a hiking area.
Because of the climate characterized by Atlantic westerly winds, the German Weather Service has set up a weather station there - visitors can visit it:
Guided tour at the weather station
The second highest mountain in North Rhine-Westphalia is also popularly known as the "father of the Sauerland mountains". The Kahler Asten is 842 m high and is also famous for its weather station. You can take a closer look at it during a guided tour. Geographer Meinolf Pape will let you look behind the scenes.
