Circular trail at the Sauerland-Höhenflug
The "Heed" hikers' parking lot is the starting point for the circular trail of the Sauerland-Höhenflug "From the water we learned it!". Often accompanied by streams, the trail leads through varied forest areas and offers magnificent views of the Meinhardus Mattenschanzen, the romantically situated private castle Badinghagen, the Aggertal and the Genkeltalsperre.
At the near-natural riparian path of the Genkeltalsperre, a signposted nature trail informs about the importance of the dam, from which raw water has been taken since 1953. After treatment by the waterworks, the water is used to supply the towns of Gummersbach, Bergneustadt, Meinerzhagen and Marienheide with drinking water.
With a length of around 12 km, the hike, which is marked with a white H on a blue background, is easily manageable as a half-day tour.
