Banded slate from the Orketal - Climate leaves bands in the rock

Straight, thin bands in the rock were formed by different climatic conditions in times long past. Find out why and also learn what conodonts and trilobites are.

You will find the quarry in the Orketal near Medelon.

Directions: Between Hesborn and Medelon on the L617, drive to the Orketal hiking parking lot. From here approx. 2.6 km on foot. Alternatively, from Medelon follow the path "Zum Orketal" in the direction of Elkeringhausen (hiking trails: Medebacher Bergweg, Höhenflug, Gewässerpfad Orke).
