The various elements and figures symbolize the facets of the Attendorn carnival: the "Bütt", where every visitor can make his/her speeches and from which a jet of water glides into the fountain when entering; the float with the city coat of arms and the indispensable cat (Kattfiller), standing for the street carnival; the Mariechen as a symbol for the dance sport; as well as the "Kattfiller", the symbolic figure of the Attendorn carnival. The basic shape of the fountain basin at the corner of Niederste Straße/Schemperstraße is a confetti.
The fountain was created by the artist Thomas Schütte from Schmallenberg. The idea came from the "Initiative Narrenbrunnen". The fountain is part of the Leader project for the sculpture trail "Customs and Town History in Attendorn". In Attendorn, this sculpture trail covers the areas of rifleman customs, Easter customs, carnival, and the history of the town.
