The building was built in 1911 in neo-Gothic style, strongly influenced by Art Nouveau, and is characterized by a functional separation of the vehicle hall, the ladder tower and the service apartment. Until 1984, the building served as the fire brigade's vehicle depot. Today, the building is used as a vehicle workshop, among other things. In 1911, the Sundwig fire station was built in neo-Gothic style on Hönnetalstraße with a separate vehicle hall, tower and service apartment. The vehicle shed was used by the fire department until 1984.
The building was listed as a technical monument in 1986.
