Originally, the Catholics from Helminghausen had to walk to Beringhausen, four kilometers away, to attend church services. For this reason, the people of Helminghausen had long wanted their own chapel. The inhabitants of the village founded a chapel building association in 1905 with the purpose of building a place of worship through voluntary donations. The foundation stone was laid in 1906 and the chapel was dedicated to St. Mark one year later.
After the renovation in the post-war years, the term "chapel" changed over time to "church" and "Mary of Perpetual Help" is now its patron saint.
