The Catholic parish in Bad Sassendorf was approved by the Vicariate General of the Archdiocese of Paderborn on April 9, 1862, due to the efforts of the then Provost Johann Eberhard Nübel. On May 26, 1862, the laying of the foundation stone for the church, school and dwelling took place. The chapel of St. Bonifatius was consecrated by Bishop Konrad Martin on August 13, 1863. It had the form of a single-nave, flat-roofed room with a three-eighths end made of local green sandstone and three pointed-arched windows without tracery on each side. A pointed octagonal ridge turret crowned the whole.
In 1938 the church was further expanded. A choir room for the altar was added. In 1939, the church, thus rebuilt, was consecrated again by the auxiliary bishop of Paderborn, Augustinus Baumann. At the beginning of the 1980s, extensive new building measures were carried out. All buildings - except the church tower - were demolished to make room for the new parish center. The new St. Bonifatius Church was consecrated in July 1981 by the auxiliary bishop of Paderborn, Dr. Paul Nordhues.
