Journey to Sauerland

The Sauerland as the No. 1 recreation region in NRW is easy to reach from almost everywhere thanks to the good connections to the bus and train network as well as numerous highways. So that you don't lose a minute of your precious vacation time, we have described the shortest routes here:

Arrival by car:

• from the north: freeway A1/A45 Hamburg >> direction Frankfurt
• from the south: freeway 5 Frankfurt/Stuttgart or freeway 45 Frankfurt/Würzburg >> direction Gießen
• from the east: freeway 44 Kassel/Dortmund
• from the west: Motorway 44 Dortmund/Kassel, then onto the A46 freeway
  Note: Motorway 45 (Sauerlandlinie) will remain closed near Lüdenscheid until further notice due to bridge damage.

Arrival by train:

• the "Ruhrtal-Bahn", route Hagen-Kassel
• the "Ruhr-Sieg-Bahn" line Hagen - Altena - Werdohl - Finnentrop - Altenhundem - Siegen
• ICE or IC-/EC connecting stations for the Sauerland region are Dortmund and Hagen in the west, Kassel-Wilhelmshöhe in the east and Frankfurt in the south.

With FlixBus to the Sauerland:
Travel cheaply and relaxed with the green FlixBus to the Sauerland, e.g. from Berlin, Göttingen or Kassel. Tickets from Berlin are already available from 22 euros! From Kassel even from 5 euros! Your bicycle is also very welcome on board: It costs only 9 euros per bike. But beware: e-bikes, pedelecs, tandems and tricycles cannot be transported on a bike rack. In the Sauerland region, the FlixBus stops at numerous vacation resorts.

Timetable and travel times:
On the new Berlin - Sauerland connection, the FlixBus operates 2x daily. To Braunschweig and Göttingen it goes up to 3x daily. The journey time from Berlin to Braunschweig is 2 ½ hours, Göttingen is reached in about 4 hours. To Kassel, the green FlixBus takes 5 ¾ hours, Marsberg and thus the first stop in the Sauerland is reached in 6 ¾ hours. The total travel time to the last stop in Neheim is about 8 ¼ hours.
