Bruse Sauerland Ski Team starts the season

Local cross-country skiers represent the region at renowned Nordic sport events

A broad portfolio of routes with perfectly groomed trails combined with a landscape experience that is unique in NRW - that's what the Sauerland Nordic sports arena stands for. Perfect conditions for the local Bruse Sauerland Ski Team, which is currently in intensive preparation for the upcoming winter and the associated competitions. Founded in 2018, the association of cross-country skiers from the region aims to fly the Sauerland flag at the major ski marathons and cross-country skiing events. The team is made up of a colorful mix of ambitious athletes and amateur runners from the entire region.

As in previous years, the joint preparation kicked off with a real endurance test. From the start in the Hanseatic town of Attendorn, the runners skied across parts of the SauerlandRadring and on through Oberkirchen and Westfeld up to the Kahler Asten. "For us, it's all about team spirit and pursuing our hobbies together," explains Lennert Versen, himself an athlete in the Bruse Sauerland Ski Team. And this year's racing calendar is once again peppered with a number of classics - it includes a total of 14 events.

Competitions in Austria, Italy, Switzerland and the Czech Republic are on the program. However, the absolute highlight of the season is probably the participation in the 90-kilometer Vasaloppet in Sweden next March. Held in the "classic style" since 1922, this is the largest and most prestigious ski marathon in the world with around 16,000 participants every year. Since 2022, the local athletes have been competing as a pro team in the Ski Classics race series. "By participating in a number of renowned Nordic events, the team and its athletes are an important representative of the region as a winter sports destination," emphasizes Dr. Jürgen Fischbach, Managing Director of Sauerland Tourism.

However, the focus is of course on having fun and working together, even if the aim is of course to achieve the best possible placings and continuous improvements. And you are sure to see the distinctive green and blue jerseys on the podium or on the leaderboards of renowned Nordic sports events again this winter.
