The Green Tower and the Limp Tower are two of four surviving defense towers that were part of the medieval city fortifications. While the Limpsturm at times served as a prison, the Grüne Turm has long been home to regional artists.

The green tower in shell construction was the northwestern corner tower of the extended city wall. The adjoining part of the city fortification in the direction of the Oleypforte can also still be easily traced.

The prominent Limpsturm on Bergstraße in Arnsberg is one of the few medieval fortification towers that have been preserved to this day. Built in the 13th century, it is still part of the old city wall and served to defend the city at that time. Later, the tower was used as a city prison for a long time, before it was no longer suitable for this purpose. (it is located in the mountain street)
