School vacations and nothing going on? Then come and visit us in the mine: here you can shed light on the darkness underground in our miner's light workshop.
During a guided tour through an old ore mining area, you will experience how work was carried out in total darkness or with only weak lighting. You will try out different light sources such as pine shavings, tallow, oil and carbide lamps. You will also learn how miners communicated underground with the help of lamps and light signals. Finally, you will model various lamps or pine chip holders, so-called "Lettenköpfe", out of clay.
