Artist Anno Weihs shows the beauty and fragility of crystalline salt structures
The salt industry is considered to be the oldest industry in Westfalen. The exhibition with the works of Menden artist Anno Weihs combines the history of salt production and the beauty of crystalline forms in fragile and wondrous structures, color gradients and formations. Their ephemeral beauty is captured in fine art prints and made accessible to the public.
The exhibition shows a selection from Weihs' "Terrain" series and works created from Bad Sassendorf and Westernkotten salt crystals. With "Terrain", Weihs takes up the concept of the photographic pioneer and natural scientist William Henry Fox Talbot's "The pencil of nature" from 1844: Nature as Artistic Genius.
The Menden artist continues to tell the story with his own approaches and methods. This includes his work with salt from the Westfalen brine springs. The exhibition combines the three themes of industrial and spa history, natural sciences
and art.
